COVER NOTES:

If traditional bluegrass music could be measured like an earthquake, the Stanley Brothers would be off the scale. Brothers Carter and Ralph emerged from the Clinch Mountain area of Virginia to become one of the moist famous Bluegrass teams to ever strike a chord. In 1992, the Stanleys assumed their rightful place alongside Bill Monroe and Flatt & Strucggs as the third entry to be inducted into the Bluegrass band in 1946 following their discharge from the Army. In 1958, they began recording for King, and subsequently, Starday Records. The seven years that followed produced 15 albums of legendary Bluegrass music. The Best Of The Best Of The Stanley Brothers includes 10 of their vintage recordings made during those Starday King years. A special treat is the inclusion of the Stanleys version of Im A Man Of Constant Sorrow. A newer version of the song was recently heard and popularized in the classic hit movie, O Brother, Where Art Thou. We Think youll find the Stanley Brothers version hard to beat. Hard-core Bluegrass fans will appreciate all of these Stanley Brothers classics, because they are available together for the first time on one compact disc. Newcomers to Bluegrass will enjoy the best pickin and singin this side of the mountain! Carters expressive lead vocals set the standard for Bluegrass singing. Ralphs rising tenor harmony is also in a class of its own. When woven together in song, the result is as refreshing as early morning mountain dew. Joining Carters guitar and Ralphs amazing banjo riffs is an entourage of vintage Bluegrass musicians which includes Bill Napier: mandolin, Ralph Mayo: fiddle & guitar, Al Elliot: bass & fiddle, Curly Lambert: mandolin & guitar, Vernon Derric: fiddle, Chubby Anthony: fiddle, Henry Dockery: bass, and, of course, the bass Y vocals of Stanley Brothers mainstay, George Shuffler. This Collection of songs is nothin short of Clinch Mountain Boys avalanche... Stanley Brothers style!
