COVER NOTES:

Jimmie Rodgers is the undisputed Father Of Country Music. His effect on country music, from the peak of his career in the 1920's, up until the present day is without measure. His vast popularity resulted in sales of almost eight times those of his contemporaries. Jimmie Rodgers was born in Meridian, Mississippi on Sept. 8, 1897. His entertainment aspirations began early in life. At age twelve, he won an amateur talent contest. A couple of years later, Jimmie was riding railways around the country and playing in medicine shows and carnivals. He later dramatized his image as a railroad man and became known as the Singing Brakeman. In 1924, Jimmie contracted tuberculosis. The disease plagued him throughout the rest of his life. In 1927, Jimmie and his band headed to Bristol, TN for audition style recording session that was being held by Ralph Peer of the Victor Company. A dispute that Jimmie had with his band that left him recording as a solo act. At a follow-up session, Jimmie recorded T For Texas. It became one of the first country songs to sell a million copies. Afterwards, Jimmies success sky-rocketed. He went on to appear in films and, despite his faltering health, energetically recorded songs throughout his life. In 1933, two days after his last recording session, Jimmie died of a lung hemorrhage. In 1961, Rodgers became the first inductee into the Country Music Hall Of Fame.
